Founded in 1983, originally as a reseller agent for a large, now defunct, California based distributor of computer peripherals, Amdex had its roots in the Digital Equipment (DEC) marketplace.
Originally as a distributor / reseller of computer peripherals such as modems, terminals, printers, and other I/O boards, we grew our business selling such things as the then state-of-the-art 300bps modem, 300 line per minute band printer, VT100 emulating dumb terminals, and memory measured in 'kilobytes'.
As the 1980’s came to a close, many of our Data Center customers started requesting help with their then legacy systems... 'PDP' and 'VAX' minicomputers from Digital Equipment. We promptly learned many other clients had this need and there was a robust growing secondary market for this gear.
Throughout the 1990’s we rapidly established ourselves as one of the leading stocking distributors of refurbished 'DEC' equipment. As our business grew, the industry continued its change as it marched forward. Compaq bought Dec, and HP bought Compaq. It was during this time that the 'Data Center' became a multi-vendor environment. We expanded our product lines to meet this need, and began selling Cisco, HP, and Microsoft products as an Authorized VAR (Value Added Reseller). These authorizations required technical competencies on the part of our engineers, and continued re-certification as new technologies emerge. We used that expertise to design and implement high-end Server, Storage and Networking solutions for our customers.
In the early part of the 21st century, we continued to add value to our core product lines, and bring value to our Data Center customers in the private sector, as well as the government and education arena. We expanded our product offerings to include key Data Center players like EMC, Compellent, IBM, and Vmware, bringing choice as well as expertise to every opportunity.
Now, as the second decade of the 21st century begins, Amdex continues to focus on bringing more choices to our customers, while continually lowering prices. Today we represent over 1,000 manufacturers and bring over 300,000 products to market. Embracing 21st century technology ourselves, our web store sets the bar with low prices on the largest online IT product catalog. We support these product lines with an array of services ranging from design and implementation solutions, to recycling services, to maintenance and remote management services.
Today Amdex is THE discounter of IT products and services for Business, Government and Education.
